IMSS recommends reinforcing preventive measures to avoid respiratory illnesses in winter

#InstitutoMexicanoDelSeguroSocial. – During the winter season, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) recommends the population to wear warm clothing such as hats, gloves, scarves and thermal clothing, avoid sudden changes in temperature, consume foods high in Vitamin C and D, fruits, vegetables, and drink plenty of fluids.

It is also very important to wash hands frequently with soap and water, keep sneezing etiquette, avoid kissing, do not stay too long in enclosed and crowded spaces, and use a mask correctly, said Dr. Maria del Rosario Niebla Fuentes, coordinator of Medical Programs in the Health Promotion Division.

The IMSS specialist indicated that the most common illnesses at this time of the year are: rhinopharyngitis, laryngitis and bronchiolitis, especially in children; in addition to pneumonia, acute bronchitis, bronchial asthma, influenza in adults and currently COVID-19.

In this sense, he explained that the Institute is prepared with infrastructure and specialized personnel to attend the beneficiaries who require it and to prescribe from preventive measures to the pharmacological management required to avoid complications.
