Miguel Torruco presents Mexico’s Tourism Policy to Ambassadors and Consuls

#SecretaríaDeTurismo. – In the presence of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, he explained that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s vision of tourism is contrary to the old formulas that led the country’s tourism industry to the concentration of travelers in a few destinations; to the coexistence of opulence and marginalization; cheap labor; wastefulness; costly promotional campaigns; tax exceptions and intensive use of natural resources, among others.

This altered the life of the communities, caused the saturation of tourist destinations, their environmental imbalance and social inequality.

He indicated that, in view of this panorama, the new tourism model opts for development with wellbeing, heritage conservation, regional development, democratic approach, quality of life for Mexicans, tourism diversification and sustainable local development, as well as conservation and respect for people’s rights.

He added that this new vision of the tourism model is based on 4 main lines of action: the Strategic Projects of the President of Mexico, where the Mayan Train, the Airport System and the development of the Huasteca Potosina stand out.
