Issste trains staff to provide healthy food in hospitals

#ISSSTE. –  The Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (Issste), through the School of Dietetics and Nutrition (EDN), provides training to heads of food service and those in charge of handling food in all medical units in the country, in order to provide patients with a healthy and adequate diet, informed the general director, Pedro Zenteno Santaella.

The director of the EDN, Luz Elena Pale Moreno, informed that the training explains and details the food plans that each beneficiary needs, depending on the disease they suffer, as well as the benefits of integrating vegetables and fruits, cereals and tubers, legumes and animal products.

In the framework of the World Legume Day, the specialist pointed out that the correct combination of these three groups allows nourishing the organism and promoting healthy habits:

«The combination of a legume with a cereal, for example, beans with tortilla, gives very good quality protein, similar to consuming meat, and contains the essential amino acids that the body needs.»
