IMSS promotes better nutrition to prevent chronic degenerative diseases

#IMSS: – The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) promotes healthy eating and the prevention of chronic degenerative diseases such as obesity, diabetes and hypertension, through Integrated Health Programs in Family Medicine Units where a multidisciplinary team instructs beneficiaries on healthy habits, the importance of physical activity and the consumption of drinking water.

As part of this action, a Nutrition and Social Work module was installed at the Social Security headquarters, located on Paseo de la Reforma Avenue in Mexico City, where workers are comprehensively informed about PrevenIMSS educational strategies for health care and promotion.

Dr. Celida Duque Molina, Director of Medical Benefits, during a tour of these modules, pointed out that overweight and obesity are the most important public health problems affecting the population, since «70 percent of people over 20 years of age have one of these two conditions».
