IMSS manages to reduce the number of teenage pregnancies through family planning actions

#InstitutoMexicanoDelSeguroSocial.- Last year, the Mexican Social Security Institute registered 8.1 percent of teenage pregnancies for every 100 pregnant women who went for consultation, a figure that five years ago exceeded 10 percent, an indicator that was reduced through actions such as PREVENIMSS and JUVENIMSS, in addition to family planning clinics and Support Modules for the Provision of Family Planning Services (MAPS).

Dr. Leticia Gabriela Gutiérrez Luna, coordinator of Medical Programs, reported that in Social Security the number of teenage pregnant women aged 10 to 19 during 2017 were 61,732 cases, with a proportion of 10.6 percent; in 2018 56,642 were attended, 10.1 percent; and in 2019 there were 52,773, 9.8 percent.

He added that, during the period of attention to the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020 there were 39,145 teenage pregnancies, with a proportion of 8.9 percent; and in 2021 there were 36,895, with 8.1 percent.
