Archaeologists discover another section of colonial wall and remains of a pre-Hispanic floor in La Lagunilla, CDMX / @alefrausto @cultura_mx >>

#SecretaríaDeCultura.- The wall discovered on Ignacio Comonfort Street in La Lagunilla, a bustling neighborhood in the Historic Center of Mexico City, would correspond to a perimeter wall, a work that was possibly made by a town council between the XVII and XVIII centuries, according to the latest discoveries at the site, reports the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico, through the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).

The INAH archaeological salvage team that accompanies the drainage replacement works being carried out in the road stream, next to the Guelatao Social and Sports Center, has explored a stretch of wall almost eight meters long and 75 centimeters wide, with more crude characteristics than the one located weeks ago, which indicates that this wall had modifications over time.

From its connection with the República de Honduras street, heading north, the group of experts, coordinated by archaeologist Juan Carlos Equihua Manrique, has registered about 30 meters of this perimeter wall, although there are no transversal walls that allow to delimit the land it flanked.

«The section of wall that we have just explored on the north side of the excavation corresponds to a modification of the original wall, which was broken at some point and then rebuilt. It is worth mentioning that both sections of the wall are at different levels, the southern wall starts much lower».
