The work of Desiderio Hernández Xochitiotzin, the last great Mexican muralist, comes to Los Pinos Cultural Complex / @alefrausto @cultura_mx >>>

#SecretaríaDeCultura.- The exhibition «D. H. Xochitiotzin. 100 years of Muralism and 100 years since the birth of Desiderio Hernández Xochitiotzin» was inaugurated at the Los Pinos Cultural Complex. A 100 years of Muralism», made up of more than 98 works and four reproductions of some of the murals that the artist painted in the Government Palace of Tlaxcala.

The exhibition is a tribute to the work of the artist born in Tlacatecpac, Tlaxcala, in 1922, and is a collaboration between the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico, through the Los Pinos Cultural Complex, the governments of the states of Puebla and Tlaxcala, through their respective Ministries of Culture, and the Desiderio Hernandez Xochitiotzin Foundation.

During the inauguration, held this Wednesday afternoon, September 14, 2022 at the Miguel de la Madrid Hall, the muralist’s daughter and president of the Desiderio Hernandez Xochitiotzin Foundation, Citlalli H. Xochitiotzin Ortega, emphasized the importance of her father’s work as a link between two periods of art in Mexico: «My father is 100 years old, he was 19 years old when he lived with Doctor Atl, participated in gatherings with Frida (Khalo), and was able to take Diego (Rivera) to the Barrio del Artista».

In her turn, the National Coordinator of Visual Arts of the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature, Mariana Munguía Matute, highlighted the importance of recognizing the work of Desiderio Hernández Xochitiotzin «as the last of the great Mexican muralists and as the most outstanding narrator of the history of Tlaxcala, cradle of the Mexican nation and of miscegenation, who was also a teacher of generations of artists».
