#SecretaríaDeTurismo.- Established by the World Tourism Organization (WTO), World Tourism Day has been celebrated every September 27 since 1980, with the purpose of raising awareness among the international community of the impact and importance of tourism in the social, cultural, political and economic spheres.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) said that this year, the UNWTO invites us to rethink one of the world’s main economic sectors, a source of foreign exchange, investment and employment: tourism.

In this regard, he pointed out that prior to the pandemic, which had a major impact on our sector, the Mexican Government, headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, had already proposed that tourism in Mexico should undergo a total renovation, to make it a tool for social reconciliation, capable of contributing significantly to the eradication of poverty and the creation of a fairer and more egalitarian country.

He reiterated that thanks to the policies of the President: not restricting international flights, applying the biosanitary protocols in collaboration with Sectur, the Ministry of Health and the private sector, and the implementation of the vaccination strategy, Mexico has not reached the bottom and is now in second place in terms of international tourist arrivals.
