IMSS recommends reinforcing self-care measures to prevent respiratory illnesses during winter season / @zoerobledo @Tu_IMSS >>>

#IMSS.- The general director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zoé Robledo, pointed out that the arrival of winter and exposure to extreme cold causes acute respiratory infections, seasonal influenza and respiratory tract diseases, so it is advisable to follow several recommendations that protect the population, particularly children under 5 years of age and those over 60 years of age.

He recommended simple measures such as personal hygiene, frequent hand washing, etiquette sneezing, not touching your face with dirty hands, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and all commonly used objects that can become spaces for the transmission of infections.

Zoé Robledo said it is advisable to wear appropriate clothing, gloves, scarves, socks, sweaters, avoid drafts and sudden changes in temperature, consume foods high in vitamin C, fruits, vegetables, drink plenty of water and not self-medicate. «It is better to take care of ourselves and avoid respiratory diseases».

For her part, Dr. Eréndira Medina Pérez, coordinator of medical programs of the First Level of Attention, pointed out that during this season respiratory diseases and their complications increase up to 20 percent, therefore it is important to avoid temperature changes, use a hat, gloves and scarf, cover mainly nose and mouth; also, consume a large amount of fruits and vegetables to improve the body’s defenses.
