#IMSS.- The High Specialty Medical Unit (UMAE) General Hospital of the National Medical Center (CMN) La Raza of the Mexican Social Security Institute, is the first at the institutional level to implement the high-tech blue laser surgical service to treat patients with benign laryngeal pathology, a condition that ranks second as a cause of surgery and hospitalization in this unit.

Dr. Silvio Jurado, head of the Otorhinolaryngology and Audiology service of the «Dr. Gaudencio Gonzalez Garza» General Hospital, informed that a month after the UMAE has been using this technology, 10 patients with larynx diseases have been operated on, thanks to the precision and speed of the procedure.

He emphasized that this innovation, the Otorhinolaryngology service of the General Hospital of CMN La Raza is the first at institutional level to have this technology, and it means an important saving in the health economy, not only in hospital expenses but also in the health of the patients, since with the use of this laser the recurrence will be much longer and in turn helps to avoid tracheotomies.

The IMSS specialist explained that among the benign pathologies of the larynx, laryngeal papillomatosis stands out, an infectious mucosal disease characterized by the presence of multiple warty growths and benign tumor lesions.

«This is highly prevalent in the country and is a cause of disability in those who suffer from it due to the respiratory difficulty that occurs on a daily basis,» he added.
