3 flights delayed and 4 with change in waiting time due to FAA system failure: SENEAM / @jorgenunol @SCT_mx >>>

#SICT.- The Mexican Airspace Navigation Services (SENEAM), a decentralized agency of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), reports that due to the failure in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) information system, only three delayed flights were reported from Cancun to Houston, as well as four flights with a change in the estimated waiting time.

SENEAM explained that since Tuesday afternoon, January 10, 2023, it received a notification at the Central Air Traffic Flow Management Unit in Mexico from the FAA’s Air Traffic Control System Command Center, informing that their systems were failing and that they would make an «update» at 18:00 hours, with which they expected to normalize the failure; however, there was no special request in this regard with the air traffic management.

Subsequently, the FAA indicated that they were unable to reestablish the systems, which caused that this Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at approximately 06:56 a.m., a notification was received stating that no traffic was allowed in U.S. airspace, accepting only those already in flight and grounding other aircraft that were about to depart.

Today, at around 07:57 hours, the FAA allowed aircraft on the ground to be released into its airspace, and at 08:45 hours it was reported that air traffic to the United States was normalized.
