#ISSSTE.- In legal matters, the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (Issste) has recovered what was forgotten in past administrations: defending its interests and not affecting the assets of public servants, said Verónica Curiel Sandoval, director of Legal Proceedings.

The objective set by the general director, Pedro Zenteno Santaella, is to defend the institute and take care of its resources, she stressed.
«We are the institute’s legal doctors, and we have to help it defend itself, help it recover and improve its health; that is what we are doing.»

Recounting the results obtained in 2022 and the challenges for this year, Curiel Sandoval indicated that the strategy established and focused on building a new Issste requires addressing issues such as pensions, medical licenses, real estate, labor awards and drug theft with transparency.

In pension matters, a work team was established with the Regulatory Directorate of Economic, Social and Cultural Benefits to start appealing sentences and fines, something that was not done before. «We are seeking to take actions that will lessen the impact on finances and, as far as possible, avoid them.»

With regard to medical licenses, we detected cases of anomalous situations in their issuance, so we began to file complaints before the Internal Control Organ (OIC), including criminal ones, for falsification or issuance without legal grounds; this not only affects the Institute’s assets, but also those of other government agencies or entities because medical licenses are processed for all the country’s public servants.
