#SEP.- The head of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), Leticia Ramírez Amaya, and the Director General of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), Arturo Reyes Sandoval, led the presentation of the Lazaro Cardenas Award, in recognition of the work and contributions of students, teachers and researchers who make up its community throughout the country.

During the ceremony, which took place in the Patio del Trabajo of the SEP headquarters building, with the presence of the coordinator of advisors of the Presidency of the Republic, Lázaro Cárdenas Batel, and the general director of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt) María Elena Álvarez-Buylla Roces, he pointed out the challenge faced by the current administration to overcome many years of disinterest in public education, the same one with which President Lázaro Cárdenas promoted the development of the country.

Ramírez Amaya emphasized that in order to dignify and revalue public schools, teachers, students and workers of the sector are required, since this is the way to break with the disqualification of public institutions, pragmatism, utilitarianism, racism and classism.

He said that the young students of the IPN will soon be in research spaces, in front of the classrooms and in the workplaces, assuming what an increasingly complex world demands from collaboration and integration.

«No one can doubt the excellence of the graduates of the Polytechnic, we all recognize the contributions to research and in the professional practice of the polytechnic community.»

For this reason, he highlighted the support and accompaniment of the federal government through the Benito Juárez García Scholarship Program for Welfare, which in public schools at the Upper Secondary level registers more than 4 million beneficiaries throughout the country.
