#SecretaríaDeCultura.- The National Center for the Arts (Cenart), an institution of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of México, presents The Carnival of the Animals, by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, with a performance by the Estudio Tamayo Chamber Orchestra, conducted by David Montes and featuring piano soloists Anthony Tamayo and Daniel Crutze.

Lions, hens, roosters, wild asses, turtles, elephants, kangaroos, fish, birds, pianists (some proclaim that pianists are human, Saint-Saëns considered them as part of this wild carnival, will he even consider them as a plague…?), fossils and swans are evoked in El carnaval de los animales, a minimal homage to nature that was premiered in 1886.

At first, the work was very jealously guarded and careful not to be played live by the author because he said it «did not represent his seriousness and formality as a composer». His score was published a year after his death and quickly became his most famous work. Hundreds of recordings exist today and it is commonly found in concert programs dedicated to children.

Although the work does not have an accompanying text, during this concert a presentation will be made to support those who listen for the first time to this suite (instrumental work in several parts) that begins with a fanfare and describes musically different animals. To do so, he uses exquisite musical quotations in almost all the short episodes, full of humor, jokes or extra musical, personal and even historical references.
