#EstadoDeQuintanaRoo.- Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa installed the State Fire Management Committee 2023 with the objective of protecting, conserving and preserving more than 80% of the forest surface of Quintana Roo, natural wealth and heritage of the people of Quintana Roo.

«In the dry season, the risk of accidental fire is permanent, so we must prepare ourselves to avoid disasters that endanger our forest areas, and life in general,» urged the governor of Quintana Roo, accompanied by José Javier May Chan, head of Conafor in Quintana Roo.

For this reason, she said that preparation is fundamental and with the delivery of personal protective equipment and specialized tools, the rural fire brigades will be better equipped to fight fires and protect their lives.

During 2022 there were 44 forest fires in the state, almost half of the 95 recorded in the entire Yucatan Peninsula, according to the National Forestry Commission (Conafor). The area affected in Quintana Roo was estimated at 8,297 hectares.

So far this year there have been two forest fires, one in the continental part of Isla Mujeres and the other to the east of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, both of which were put out in one day’s work.
