#SecretaríaDeCultura.- The Centro de la Imagen (CI), an institution of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico, opens its first exhibitions of 2023 to the public with shows on Tufic Yazbek and Gloria Frausto; the arrival of AIDS in Mexico and the work of emerging artists from Latin America.

The four exhibitions, which will open to the public in an event on Thursday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Centro de la Imagen, invite the viewer to recognize the body with its different forms and expressive possibilities, from its approach to political-cultural themes; the commercial and advertising; as well as the intimate and personal. The consolidated and emerging trajectories are present in these exhibitions that bring together Latin American artists, who work from different artistic practices.

«Tufic Yazbek, singular presence», curated by Edgar Alejandro Hernández, recognizes the legacy of a man who set the standard in the photographic field and continues to transform it through his interaction with new generations thanks to imaginaries that still endure, in which corporal expression acquired new meanings in mass consumption thanks to advertising photography and portraits of personalities from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema.

This exhibition focuses on three recurring themes in Tufic Yazbek’s production: the studio portrait, advertising photography and images of travel or everyday life, from which a panorama of his visual universe is offered, while displaying a detailed portrait of the process of consolidation of modern Mexico in the mid-twentieth century.
