#Cultura.- The Federal Ministry of Culture and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (Inbal), through the Center for Experimentation and Production of Contemporary Music (Cepromusic), organized a master class with Venezuelan violinist Iván Pérez on György Ligeti’s Violin Concerto (1990-1992).

During the exhibition, Iván Pérez explained that this work has been played very little, because of its difficulty. It has been almost 30 years since it was written and it is still little known and only a few instrumentalists play it. But it has awakened interest among musicians lately, especially among the new generation, and especially in Mexico. It is undoubtedly a classic violin work of the end of the millennium and of all times.

Before young musicians and the general public, in a session lasting almost two hours, the violinist, who is first concertmaster of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Jalisco, violin and sheet music in hand, gave details of the themes that make Ligeti’s Violin Concerto a difficult work to perform, but extremely attractive for the performer.

The musician, who will perform this work as guest soloist of the Cepromusic Ensemble of the Inbal, as part of the activities of the Espacio Ligeti, spoke of harmonies, pizzicatos, intermezzos and cadenzas; of violins, flutes, ocarinas and other instruments that can be heard; of impressionist sonorities and tendencies; of formalities and avant-garde, which make this work «disconcerting, impressive, but extremely interesting, because it is a work that reflects a Ligeti already consolidated and sure of what he wanted to do, which was to break everything».
