In her message, she emphasized the importance of protecting the land from its cultural roots:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00abThis festival is a space to honor our peoples and to reaffirm that the land is life, history, and future. Defending it also means protecting our identity,\u00bb she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For her part, Secretary \u00c1lvarez Icaza emphasized the symbolic value of the ritual:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe come from the earth, we go to the earth, we defend the earth, and we are the earth. May this ceremony reconnect us with the earth, with the corn, with the vegetables, and with the rains that have already honored us,\u201d she said to applause, just after a light drizzle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For her part, the chronicler of Topilejo took the floor to highlight the sacred nature of the site: \u201cWe may not believe it, but two hours ago we opened the gates and it rained. Here lies the goddess Chicomec\u00f3atl, a symbol of fertility.
