#MexicanSocialSecurityInstitute<\/strong>,\u00a0#Mexico<\/strong>.-\u00a0A profound act of generosity by two families in the port city of Acapulco has become a source of hope for nine people awaiting transplants<\/strong>, six of whom are paediatric patients. Multidisciplinary specialists from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS)<\/strong> in Guerrero carried out two multi-organ procurements<\/strong> over the weekend at the Regional General Hospital (HGR) No. 1 \u201cVicente Guerrero\u201d<\/strong>. This remarkable gesture of solidarity was made possible thanks to the decision of the families who, despite their grief, authorised the donation of organs and tissues<\/strong> to save lives nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first donor, a 14-year-old boy<\/strong> who suffered a traumatic brain injury, enabled the procurement of his heart, liver, kidneys and corneas<\/strong>. These vital organs were immediately transported to highly specialised hospitals across the country to address national emergencies<\/strong>: the heart was sent to the National Institute of Cardiology \u201cIgnacio Ch\u00e1vez\u201d<\/strong>, the liver to the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition \u201cSalvador Zubir\u00e1n\u201d<\/strong>, and the kidneys to the state of Jalisco, while the corneas were transferred to the CMN Siglo XXI<\/strong> in Mexico City. The second donor, a 35-year-old man<\/strong>, also a victim of trauma, enabled the donation of one kidney and corneas<\/strong>, benefitting other young patients on the waiting list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through these actions, the Regional General Hospital No. 1 \u201cVicente Guerrero\u201d of the IMSS<\/strong> has reached 10 multi-organ donations<\/strong> and 41 procurements<\/strong> so far in 2025, establishing itself as one of the most active Second-Level medical units in the country<\/strong>. Dr Anwar Hern\u00e1ndez Paz y Puente<\/strong>, Coordinator of Donation, emphasised that these achievements are the result of effective multidisciplinary coordination<\/strong> and the fundamental role of donor families<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mexican Social Security Institute<\/strong> calls on the public to strengthen the culture of organ donation<\/strong>, an act of social responsibility that offers the possibility of saving or improving the lives of up to eight people<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
