Through awareness conferences, Tecámac commemorates «Earth Day»

#Tecámac, #EstadoDeMéxico.- Within the framework of Earth Day, the administration headed by the municipal president, Mariela Gutiérrez Escalante, through the Directorate of Culture and Ecology and Environment, held a series of conferences to raise awareness among the people of Tecámac to take care of this non-renewable resource. In welcoming the attendees, the deputy director of Ecology of Tecámac, Hugo Cortés Chávez, emphasized that these meetings are to raise awareness of environmental care, to leave a better planet for new generations.

The municipal chronicler, Sergio Diaz, mentioned that this commemoration, is for the inhabitants of the municipality to assume the responsibility to take care of the earth, just as it is done with the water, and protect the environment to reduce the effects of global warming. «It is the responsibility of all of us to take care of this resource as well as water; and to learn everything we can to take care of our environment against global warming, which is very latent,» he said.

As part of Earth Day, they also held the «Soil Week», events held in the facilities of Casa de Cultura in the community of San Pedro Pozohuacán, where attendees could learn the importance of making a compost, which activity they carried out in some schools in the municipality.

Among the conferences given on April 22 and 23 were «Avifauna of Tecámac and the Sierra Hermosa State Park», «Urban Soils and Compost», «Urban Gardens», «Urban Ecology: Arboriculture and Pollinator Gardens», «Geology of the Basin of Mexico», among others. According to research, soil retains three times as much carbon as the atmosphere and can help combat the effects of climate change, and 95 percent of food comes from the soil, which is why it is so important to protect it.

The attendees also supported the staff of the Directorate of Ecology in planting five elm trees and several lily flower plants at the Casa de Cultura of San Pedro Pozohuacán.
