Sectur promotes accreditation in the LGBTQ+ segment for destinations and companies in Mexico

#SecretaríaDeTurismo.- At the end of the first half of the year, Los Cabos, in Baja California Sur, and some hotels already have this accreditation, such as: W Mexico City and Hyatt Regency Mexico City, in Mexico City; Thompson Playa del Carmen, Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen and TRS Coral Hotel, in Quintana Roo; The Westin Guadalajara, in Jalisco; Hostik Hostal and TRS Yucatán Hotel, in Yucatán; as well as 19 properties of the Hoteles City chain and AVASA-Hertz, a car rental company.

For the second half of the year, we are working with destinations and companies committed to the inclusion and diversification of the segment.

«The sum of efforts between Sectur, the IGLTA and Queer Destinations allows Mexico to advance in the training and accreditation of governments and tourism companies nationwide, in order to provide safety, quality attention to the traveler of this segment, as well as comfortable spaces free of any discrimination, thus promoting inclusive and diverse tourism,» said the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués.

LGBTQ+ tourism is a market that represents at least 35 million travelers worldwide, according to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO); in addition, travelers in this segment spend up to 15 percent more than tourists from other niches, and travel at any time of the year, growing as a segment annually 10.3 percent, well above conventional tourism.
