Chronic degenerative diseases, main risk of non-traumatic disability in México: Issste / @drpedrozenteno @ISSSTE_mx >>>

#ISSSTE.- «Chronic degenerative diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension and their main risk factor, which is obesity, are potentiators of non-traumatic disability, which is why it is so important to prevent them,» said Brenda Irma Guízar Ramírez, director of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic of the Southern Zone of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (Issste).

The general director of the institution, Pedro Zenteno Santaella, emphasized that, in the Issste health model, rather than focusing on curing illnesses and treating complications, we now work to prevent them and promote healthy lifestyle habits, so that the population remains in optimal health and does not suffer from disability.

Within the framework of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the specialist Guízar Ramírez made recommendations to prevent this situation: implement responsible self-care mechanisms, monitor body weight, exercise regularly, ensure a balanced diet and go to the medical unit for a health check-up at least once a year, «so that we can keep our body in the best possible condition and reduce the possibility of having a disease or associated limitations».

Regarding the importance of having rehabilitation services, he explained that they contribute to reducing disabling sequelae; their premise is to maximize the functional recovery of each patient and improve his or her quality of life.
