#GobiernoDeMéxico.- México will have the first tropical rainforest reserve in Campeche and the second largest in the world, after the Amazon in Brazil; this is the Gran Calakmul Region, which will be linked to the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve and integrated to the Areas Voluntarily Destined for Conservation and Natural Protected Areas, highlighted the Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources, María Luisa Albores González.

During the weekly report of actions for environmental care on the route of the Mayan Train, the official said that this project will achieve biological connectivity with Laguna de Términos, also in that entity.

She spoke about the restoration of the ecosystem in the 2,200 hectare Nuevo Uxmal Natural Protected Area. Endemic species of flora and fauna are preserved there, including pheasants, parrots, macaws, hummingbirds, mockingbirds, cardinals, nightingales, raccoons and a wide variety of snakes.

On the other hand, the Puerto Morelos Mangrove, which covers more than 500 hectares, is protected as a refuge, feeding and reproduction site for crocodiles, striped spiny iguanas, spider monkeys, among other species. Although it is small, it has great biocultural relevance, said the head of Semarnat.
