IMSS doctors transplanted fifth liver of the year at La Raza Specialty Hospital / @zoerobledo @Tu_IMSS >>>

#IMSS.- Specialists from the Hospital de Especialidades del Centro Médico Nacional La Raza performed yesterday Thursday the fifth liver transplant of the year, the recipient of the vital organ was a 40-year-old male patient diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver.

The liver transplant was achieved thanks to the will of a family who decided to donate the organs of a 24-year-old man, who was brain dead due to a cranioencephalic trauma. The organ procurement was performed at the Regional General Hospital No. 58 in Leon, Guanajuato.

In addition to the liver, lungs were obtained and sent to Cardiology Hospital No. 34 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon; kidneys and corneas were taken to High Specialty Medical Unit No. 1 in Leon, Guanajuato.

In this regard, Dr. José Cruz Santiago, Head of the Transplant Department at La Raza Specialty Hospital, commented that «we perform around 20 liver transplants and 120 kidney transplants a year. Our survival rate exceeds 95 percent of success per year, a number similar to that of large international hospitals.

He added that approximately 40 people participate in this procedure, including anesthesiologists, transplant surgeons, nurses, perfusionists, hepatologists, gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, orderlies, the laboratory service, the Intensive Care Unit and the directors themselves.
