The Fandango for Reading in Tabasco, tradition and future in poetry / @lopezobrador_ @GobiernoMX >>>

#GobiernoDeMéxico.- Another Fandango for Reading was held between readings of canonical authors and peasant theater plays. This time, in the central park of the community of Tamulté de las Sabanas, in Centro, Tabasco. The guest country was Germany, and as a small sample of its rich culture, the internationally renowned pianist Rodolfo Ritter performed an excerpt from Beethoven’s 5th Symphony; in addition, there was a public reading of poems by Heinrich Heine, a preponderant figure of German romanticism, and Karoline von Günderrode, a pioneer in literary creation by women.

From Mexico, the memory and legacy of some of the most relevant poets of the national literary scene were honored, such as Carlos Pellicer and José Gorostiza, both from Tabasco, whose works are of great quality and sensitivity. As in all the Fandangos, the presence of the native languages of the region is indispensable; to give an account of this, the poem Uxik ch’ok ixim – Daughter of Corn – by Domingo Alejandro Luciano, writer and translator of Yokot’an, and president of Writers in Native Languages of Tabasco, was read.

All Fandangos por la Lectura have set out to highlight a key feature of their host culture. On this occasion, the purpose was to pay homage to the very important poetic tradition of Tabasco, by highlighting the works of canonical authors, such as the aforementioned Pellicer and Gorostiza, and of other lesser known poets, such as José Carlos Becerra -and his poem Oscura palabra, a true reference of Mexican poetry of the 20th century-, Dolores Correa y Zapata -teacher and poet, a woman of advancement- or Josefina Vicens -mainly known for her narrative work, such as the novel El libro vacío (The Empty Book).

The Fandangos por la Lectura are an encounter between cultures, therefore, in addition to Rodolfo Ritter’s musical number, the official group Tamborileros de Tabasco performed.
