#IMSS.- Through the Telemedicine system, specialists of the High Specialty Medical Unit (UMAE) Hospital de Traumatología, Ortopedia y Rehabilitación «Dr. Victorio de la Fuente Narváez» of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), in Mexico City, have supported 3,180 patients with orthopedic problems with a long-distance diagnosis in a comprehensive manner.

With the objective of optimizing the processes in the previous assessments and surgical treatment, authorities of this UMAE made arrangements with the IMSS Representation in the state of Chiapas, in order to implement this tool in the General Zone Hospital (HGZ) No. 1 in Tapachula and the HGZ No. 2 in Tuxtla Gutierrez.

This has allowed some pathologies to be solved in the second level hospitals, without the need of transferring the patients to the capital city, while speeding up the attention of those who require surgical treatment in the third level, informed Dr. Henry Martin Quintela Nuñez del Prado, medical director of the Orthopedics Hospital, located in Magdalenas de las Salinas.

He explained that the treating physician of the foreign hospital, in a first session, presents the patient’s case by e-mail to the group of specialists of the UMAE, who analyze it and determine the date and time for a live assessment between doctors from Chiapas, the patient and experts from the hospital unit.
