#IMSS.- The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has innovated in the treatment of arterial hypertension through the creation of the Comprehensive Care Protocol (PAI), the application of dual and triple therapies (two or three drugs in a single pill), and the promotion of blood pressure measurements during the Continuity of Services Days, which has achieved that 80 percent of the entitled population has its blood pressure under control.

«As a frame of reference, the United Kingdom reported a 60 percent blood pressure control rate; some years ago it implemented strategies like this one and managed to achieve greater control; 80 of our patients being followed up on their blood pressure figures is really good news,» highlighted Dr. Gabriela Borrayo Sánchez, coordinator of Health Innovation.

On this World Hypertension Day, the specialist pointed out that Social Security has 7.8 million beneficiaries with high blood pressure, who are treated according to the Comprehensive Care Protocol with multidisciplinary teams and specific activities with nursing staff, medical assistants, social work, nutrition, psychology, stomatology, and first, second and third level doctors.

«We also innovate in non-pharmacological therapy, establishing specific activities for healthy eating, exercise, emotion control. We have in our Social Security Centers, yoga activities, health education, preparation of healthy dishes, art, dance, activities that can be carried out by beneficiaries and lengthen the time it takes for arterial hypertension to manifest itself,» she said.
