#SICT.- The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Jorge Nuño Lara, kicked off the expansion works of the Patzcuaro-Uruapan Highway, in the Zirahuén-Zirimícuaro section.

With an investment of 1.2 billion pesos, the 22 km long extension of the Patzcuaro-Uruapan toll highway, between Zirahuén and the Zirimícuaro junction, contemplates going from a type A2 highway to a type A4 highway, with two lanes of traffic in each direction.

This important highway will have 14 vehicular underpasses, 1 bridge, 4 canal bridges, 1 pedestrian underpass, 3 junctions and 2 railroad underpasses.

The highway section is located between the municipalities of Salvador Escalante and Ziracuaretiro, in the state of Michoacán, and will benefit 1,390,000 inhabitants of 6 municipalities. The works will generate 1,040 direct jobs and 3,300 indirect jobs. The work will be completed in December of this year.

The expansion of the Pátzcuaro-Uruapan highway will boost the development of tourism and economic activity in the region, reduce the number of accidents due to overtaking and improve connectivity between the port of Lázaro Cárdenas, Uruapan and Morelia with the states of Jalisco, Guanajuato and Querétaro.
