#ISSSTE.- The Director General of the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (Issste), Pedro Zenteno Santaella, informed that the construction of the High Specialty Regional Hospital (HR) in Acapulco, Guerrero, will begin in August, benefiting 630,000 beneficiaries and the population in general in the event of an emergency.

During the weekly follow-up meeting on the construction of the regional hospitals in Jalisco and Coahuila -each with 250 census beds-, a general hospital with 150 beds in Tamaulipas and two Hospital Clinics (CH) with 20 beds each – Baja California Sur and Chiapas-, he indicated that with the 250 beds in the Acapulco RH, Issste will have 940 more beds at the service of its members, something that has not happened in the Institute for more than 25 years.

He added that the construction of the Acapulco HR, scheduled to be completed in 394 days, will create 1,500 direct jobs and 4,500 indirect jobs. The federal investment is three thousand 500 million pesos of its own resources; it will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology to provide care in 36 medical specialties, as well as hemodynamics and tomography services. In addition, its facilities will train health professionals.

He pointed out that it will provide care for highly complex therapeutic conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular, neurovascular and chronic degenerative diseases, among others. It will establish agreements for high specialty services with other institutions to avoid transferring patients to hospitals in other states or even to Mexico City.
