Municipality of Ecatepec launches police cell to combat extortionists / @FerVilchisMx @Ecatepec >>>

#Ecatepec, #Edoméx.- Fernando Vilchis Contreras, municipal president of Ecatepec, kicked off the Extortion Combat Cell, made up of 30 members of the Municipal Public Security and Transit Department, whose objective is to deal with this crime in order to safeguard the integrity and property of the citizens.

Accompanied by representatives of the most important companies of the municipality, social and religious leaders, the Mayor pointed out that the Extortion Combat Cell will work in coordination with personnel from the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM).

He explained that this group, which is integrated to the other cells to combat high impact crimes such as car theft, home robbery, cargo theft and robbery of pedestrians, among others, is made up of 30 elements that were trained in specialization for criminal investigation.

In addition, the new elements were equipped with eight patrols equipped with high technology, ballistic vests, ballistic helmet, portable radio and weapons to safeguard all the families of Ecatepenses.

«I believe that at this moment requires the participation of everyone in the construction of the new model of security and above all of justice in the State of Mexico, of proven, profound but above all effective actions to change the reality of thousands of Mexicans who every day are at the mercy of crime,» said the mayor of Ecatepec.

Vilchis Contreras added that the group against extortion adds to the actions of the municipal public safety strategy undertaken for four years with which according to figures from the Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) from 2019 to date decreased 50% car theft, from 2017 to date, 34% of intentional homicides; in the last 5 years assaults on public transport have decreased by 45%; kidnapping fell to 56% and robbery of passersby by 15%.
