Issste acquires high-end bedpan washer-disinfectors and sterilizers to reduce hospital infections / @drpedrozenteno @ISSSTE_mx >>>

#ISSSTE.- As part of the equipment strategy at the three levels of care, the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (Issste) acquired 354 high-end bedpan washers, which reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). With this, we strengthen prevention and control actions such as hygiene, water quality and adequate disinfection of the environment, informed the general director, Pedro Zenteno Santaella.

According to the Ministry of Health, from January to August 2022, 36,425 HAIs were registered in 353 second and third level units throughout the country https://acortar.link/NBkRJv. It is of utmost importance to prevent infections of this nature in order to guarantee quality care, he said.

HCAIs -as described by the World Health Organization (WHO)- are infections that affect a patient during the care process in a hospital or healthcare center, which were not present -or in the incubation period- at the time of admission, and which may even manifest themselves after medical discharge.

Pedro Zenteno pointed out that the coordinated work of Issste’s Medical and Administration and Finance departments made it possible to acquire state-of-the-art bedpan washers and sterilizers that comply with the corresponding official operating standards and avoid contamination risks for medical, nursing and administration staff, as well as for patients.
