Given the current situation in México, it is necessary to confirm the values that have guided us as a nation: Lía Limón / @lialimon @AlcaldiaAO >>>

#ÁlvaroObregón, #CDMX.- Mayoress Lía Limón warned that in view of the current situation the country is going through, it is necessary to confirm the values that have guided us as a nation: non-intervention; the peaceful solution of conflicts; respect for sovereignty and the construction of better living conditions for all Mexicans.

On commemorating the 176th anniversary of the heroic deed of the St. Patrick’s Battalion, formed by a group of Irishmen who joined Mexico and offered their lives in their fight against the invasion of the United States between 1846 and 1848, Lía Limón assured that it is time to take up the causes of those fighters against injustice.

Accompanied by the Irish Ambassador to Mexico, Maeve Von Heynitz, she recognized the effort, dedication and courage shown by the soldiers of the San Patricio Battalion, whose sacrifice was an invaluable contribution to the construction of the Mexico we live in today.

He recalled that in that battalion there were also Germans, Poles and even Italians and Canadians; but it was the Irish blood, led by John Riley, which generated the identity of the group and the cohesion with the Mexican cause, which was reflected in their courage and dedication in the battles of Monterrey, La Angostura, Cerro Gordo and Churubusco.

«It was a war described as unjust, even by the Spanish and French, who at an earlier moment in the history we commemorate today, decided to withdraw and not participate in the aggression against the young Mexican nation,» said the mayoress.
