Esmeralda Vallejo announces program to combat street vending and child labor in Ecatepec / @FerVilchisMx @Ecatepec >>>

#Ecatepec, #Edoméx.- Esmeralda Vallejo Martínez, president of the municipal DIF system of Ecatepec, informed that the local government will carry out a program to combat child labor and street vending by minors in streets, crossroads and public places in the municipality.

She explained that specialized personnel from the Municipal DIF’s Office for the Protection of the Rights of Children and Adolescents will participate in the work, in coordination with the Municipal Human Rights Ombudsman’s Office, the Coordination of Markets, Street Vendors and the Directorate of Economic Development.

Vallejo Martinez explained that trained personnel will conduct tours on the main roads of the municipality, in order to talk to and raise awareness of parents or guardians responsible for the care of minors who are on the street exercising some productive activity that takes them away from school, which will be followed up to ensure that their rights are fully respected.

During the Second Extraordinary Session of the System of Integral Protection of Children and Adolescents of Ecatepec (SIPINNA), Vallejo Martinez pointed out that currently there is a notable presence of minors on the streets working or accompanying their parents in the sale of products, cleaning cars or begging for money, a fact that sometimes takes them away from their school work, recreation and healthy development.

She said: «What we want to do is to take immediate action, since we have seen that the issue of children being exposed on public roads has grown and even more so now that the dates of greater movement and traffic in the country are coming, such as the Christmas and vacation seasons. We are concerned and what we want is to protect children and adolescents».

It is worth mentioning that the campaign will consist of undertaking tours and awareness talks to parents, passers-by and citizens about the risks to which minors are exposed when street vending or performing any work that may affect their physical and emotional integrity.
