#Guanajuato, #Gto.- The Guanajuato Capital’s Day of the Dead Festival broke the 2022 record of 120,000 visitors with an influx of more than 145,000 people in 2023, highlighted the head of Tourism and Economic Development of the capital’s government, Daniel Gutiérrez Meave.

With this 18 percent increase in attendance and an economic benefit of more than 195 million pesos, the Day of the Dead Festival has already consolidated its position as one of the five best of its kind in Mexico, confirmed the General Directorate of Tourism and Economic Development. Derived from these excellent results, it is contemplated to extend it next year, from five to six or seven days, and Puebla and Aguascalientes would be the guest cities of honor.

«We are already thinking about a sixth edition and, to enrich the 2024 program, we have already approached Puebla and Aguascalientes,» added Gutiérrez Meave, representing Alejandro Navarro, mayor of Guanajuato Capital and creator of this tourist product.

«It is an event that should remain forever. It is a Festival for the enjoyment of the people of Guanajuato that attracts thousands of visitors from different parts of the world,» said Luis Michelini Cueto, president of the Tourism Promotion Council, the body that will be in charge of organizing the Festival starting in 2024.

«We had an average hotel occupancy rate of 67 percent between Tuesday, October 31 and Sunday, November 5, with 18,868 rooms occupied during the six days of the Day of the Dead Festival,» said Ruben Morales, spokesman for the Association of Hotels and Motels of this colonial destination.
