With decree, president declares return of passenger train service; commemorates 113th Anniversary of the Mexican Revolution / @lopezobrador_ @GobiernoMX >>>

#GobiernoDeMéxico.- On the 113th Anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced the publication of the decree that establishes the use of 17,484 kilometers of railroad tracks, facilities and stations for passenger train service, after the privatization of exclusive cargo transportation that occurred in 1995.

«We made this decision because train travel will be more economical, comfortable and less polluting, since the tracks can be electrified. It is safer public transportation and will increase the mobility of the population from Mexico’s main cities to the northern border,» he explained in Mexico City’s Zócalo.

The provision was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on Monday, November 20; it declares the provision of public passenger railroad transportation services in the Mexican Railroad System as a priority area for national development.

The Chief Executive stated that the operation of the routes in the first stage:

  • Mexico City – Veracruz – Coatzacoalcos
  • Felipe Angeles Airport – Pachuca
  • Mexico – Querétaro – Leon – Aguascalientes
  • Manzanillo – Colima – Guadalajara – Irapuato
  • Mexico – San Luis Potosi – Monterrey – Nuevo Laredo
  • Mexico – Querétaro – Guadalajara – Tepic – Mazatlán – Nogales
  • Aguascalientes – Chihuahua – Ciudad Juárez
