Quintana Roo makes steady progress in the fight against sexual exploitation of children / @MaraLezama @GobQuintanaRoo >>>

#EstadoDeQuintanaRoo.- During the 2nd International Forum for the Prevention of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents Online in Tourist Contexts held in this city, awards were presented to three high schools that participated in the implementation of the application «In Search of your Virtual Identity».

The ceremony was led by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and Norma Negrete, national coordinator of ECPAT Mexico, with the assistance of Paul Pellizzari, vice president of Global Social Responsibility and Lori Cohen, CEO of ECPAT USA, who participated in the awards ceremony.

Addressing all the attendees and participants of the International Forum, Governor Mara Lezama expressed that the prevention, prosecution and punishment of sexual exploitation of children and adolescents is a priority issue for this government and, fortunately, for many people from civil society and private initiative.

With this principle, she united this administration with ECPAT, with which they have joined efforts to advance in the attention and eradication of this scourge for children and youth. Mara Lezama recalled that last year, on International Tourism Day, a Solidarity Agreement was signed to continue advancing in this mission.

Actions have been carried out. Last February, the First Roundtable for the Safety of Children and Adolescents was held, a day on which it was also announced that a reform to the Tourism Law had been sent to the State Congress to reinforce the fight against sexual and commercial exploitation of children and adolescents.

With this law, in Quintana Roo, tourism service providers are obliged to validate the affiliation, kinship or authorization of those who legally have custody or guardianship of minors staying with them.
