#EstadoDeVeracruz.- With the objective of facilitating the full exercise of the human right to science, the National Council for Humanities, Sciences and Technologies (Conahcyt) and the government of the state of Veracruz signed a framework agreement that establishes general bases and clear mechanisms to contribute to the humanistic, scientific, technological and sovereign innovation for welfare (HCTI) advancement with incidence in the state.

In accordance with the first General Law on Humanities, Science, Technology and Innovation (LGHCTI), this agreement allows the development, strengthening and articulation of regional and local capacities in HCTI research, aimed at preventing, addressing and, where appropriate, solving national priority problems in Veracruz.

It also provides for the harmonization of the legal framework of HCTI activities in the state of Veracruz and the establishment of culturally appropriate and fair work agendas, which deepen the transformation of public life in the state and Mexico.

During the signing of this agreement, chaired by the general director of Conahcyt, María Elena Álvarez-Buylla Roces and the governor of Veracruz, Cuitláhuac García Jiménez, the participation of the Public Centers (PC) coordinated by this institution is stipulated, as well as other academic and technological instances that influence, from the HCTI work, at community, regional and local level on priority issues such as: environmental remediation, toxicities, health, water, agro-ecological transition, among others.

Governor Cuitláhuac García Jiménez was pleased because Conahcyt has a more social and humanistic approach, addressing the major problems of the country, “and no longer as in the neoliberal period when, even, the idea was planted that scientists did not need this area”.

He pledged that from the Veracruz Council for Scientific Research and Technological Development (Coveicydet), the harmonization of the general law (regarding HCTI) will be carried out and social projects will be supported.
