#IMSS.- As part of World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) launched the Hand and Ankle Accident Prevention Campaign, in order to strengthen the culture of prevention and promote best practices in occupational safety and health, as part of the Safe and Healthy Workplace Environments Program (ELSSA).

During the National Workplace Safety and Health Day, held from April 22 to 29, 577 ELSSA awards were presented to affiliated companies participating in the Program, and 31 simultaneous events were held with the participation of 2,410 people in person and 782 by remote means.

At the formal event held at the «Juan Moisés Calleja García» Reforma Theater, the IMSS Secretary General, Marcos Bucio, pointed out that Social Security, after 81 years of existence, serves 70 million Mexicans, so that the efforts made by the institution have been fundamental to improve the quality of life, both inside and outside its work areas.

He added that 60 percent of the incapacities are traumatology and orthopedics, for this reason «the importance of occupational health has to do with the training to identify which are, in each of the companies, the factors that cause risk and reduce them».

He added that efforts are being made to make businessmen more competitive, and that is why they are supported so that workers have a better quality of life and a more solid health system.

He recognized the director of Economic and Social Benefits of the IMSS, Mauricio Hernández Ávila, for his perseverance, discipline and creativity in building the ELSSA program in companies. «He has done something extraordinary after COVID-19, which is to realize that preventive health is once again a priority.»
