Information on fentanyl production from The New York Times is not credible: President Claudia Sheinbaum / @GobiernoMX >>>
#GobiernoDeMéxico.- In defense of the right to information, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo specified, on scientific grounds, that the article published on December 29, 2024 by the US media The New York Times on the production of fentanyl lacks credibility, since the conditions described in the article are not viable for the manufacture of this drug due to the high toxicity of its chemical components.
“Here we are defending the right to information and whether or not it is feasible for a media outlet, whether Mexican or not, to publish notes that are not credible from a scientific perspective”, he highlighted during the morning conference: ‘Las mañaneras del pueblo’.
He explained that one of the elements of the article that reveal little credibility is the affirmation that fentanyl manufacturers generate tolerance to the “lethal drug”; however, he clarified, there is no scientific evidence to support this fact. “If there were tolerance to the lethal drug, there would not be the fentanyl deaths that there are in the United States,” he said.
He pointed out that the Mexican Government is fighting against the commercialization of fentanyl and any other type of drugs through the coordination with all the agencies, particularly security, as well as the implementation of strategies such as the elaboration of a special campaign to avoid the consumption of this type of substances.
“We are going to collaborate for humanitarian reasons always, to avoid if there is trafficking of fentanyl to the United States from Mexico and the sale in our own country, which is fought in various ways. Next week we will present the new campaign to prevent the consumption of drugs, particularly fentanyl, and also from the perspective of public security and the Attorney General’s Office,” he informed.
