Mexico, leader in Green Key and Blue Flag awards in the Americas

#SecretaríaDeTurismo.- Attending as a witness of honor at the presentation of Green Key badges to 150 Grupo Posadas hotels, the Minister of Tourism (SECTUR) said that this recognition is a guarantee of sustainability in the management and operation of lodging establishments, adhering to strict regulatory criteria stipulated by the Foundation for Environmental Education.

He commented that this praiseworthy initiative, which began in Denmark in 1994, represents a commitment to the environment and to the competitiveness of the tourism sector; and that Mexico ranks eighth in the world in terms of establishments with this distinction, and the first in the American continent.

He indicated that, to date, the Green Key distinction has been awarded to a little more than 3,500 companies in 65 countries around the world, including Mexico, with 157 hotels in 31 Mexican states.

Torruco Marqués highlighted that in 2019, the hotel industry represented 29.8% of the Tourism GDP and 9.7% of employment. It currently has around 854 thousand rooms in more than 24 thousand lodging establishments, which keeps us in the seventh position in hotel infrastructure worldwide.
