Over US$10.777 billion dollars in international tourist arrivals to Mexico from January to May 2022

#SecretaríaDeTurismo.- The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) highlighted that, based on the results of the International Travelers Survey published by INEGI, between January and May 2022, 14 million 629 thousand international tourists entered the country, which represents 35.7% more compared to what was captured in the same period of 2021; being 19.4% away from reaching the 18 million 160 thousand international tourists in the same period of 2019.

He noted that the average expenditure of international tourists in the January-May 2022 period was US$736.7, which is 48.0% more compared to 2021, and also surpassing by 32.1% the US$557.6 recorded in the same period of 2019.

Torruco Marqués highlighted that during the first five months of 2022, 8 million 628 thousand inbound tourists arrived to Mexico via air, this is 98.9% more compared to 2021, missing 0.7% to reach the inbound tourists captured in the same period of 2019.

He commented that foreign exchange income from inbound tourists via air from January to May 2022 had an increase of 114.6% compared to 2021, by registering 9 billion 878 million dollars, and an increase of 9.0% compared to the 9 billion 63 million dollars captured in the same period of 2019.
