Omar Millán González wins the Bellas Artes Carlos Montemayor Literary Chronicle Award 2022

#SecretaríaDeCultura.- The Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (Inbal), through the National Coordination of Literature (CNL), and the Government of the State of Chihuahua, through its Ministry of Culture, announced that the winner of the Carlos Montemayor Literary Chronicle Award 2022 is Omar Millán González for Los pescadores de la isla El Muerto (The Fishermen of El Muerto Island).

In a virtual ceremony, the jury formed by Yunuen Esmeralda Díaz Velázquez, Diego Enrique Rodríguez Landeros and Vicente Alfonso Rodríguez Aguirre, unanimously recognized the work of the author from Tijuana, Baja California.

According to the jury’s report, Los pescadores de la isla El Muerto is a remarkable work that exposes the precarious working conditions and lack of labor rights suffered by divers dedicated to fishing and harvesting certain marine species in the Sea of Cortez, in addition to the extractive conditions and lack of regulation caused by the capitalist system in these activities.
