Federal and higher education authorities analyze an action plan for health education transformation

#SecretaríaDeEducaciónPública.- In a joint inter-institutional effort to make progress in the educational transformation in healthcare, commissions will be set up to make the proposals of the different actors in the sector a reality, with the aim of formulating a plan of action.

This was decided during a working meeting between the Ministries of Public Education (SEP), Health, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (Anuies) and various higher education institutions in the country.

The SEP’s Undersecretary for Higher Education, Luciano Concheiro Bórquez, considered that, during the meeting, held at the UNAM’s School of Medicine Palace, a wide range of proposals were presented, both for transforming Higher Education institutions in terms of the training of healthcare personnel, as well as the way in which the strategy for change should be implemented.

Before more than 20 university rectors and 20 directors of medical schools in the country, Concheiro Bórquez explained that during the 2021-2022 cycle, total enrollment in public and private higher education institutions, especially in medicine, will reach 153,830 students, and just over 42,000 will be enrolled in medical specialty programs.
