Cervical cancer, 100% preventable: Issste

#InstitutoDeSeguridadYServiciosSocialesDeLosTrabajadoresDelEstado.- In commemorating the National Day against Cervical Cancer, Pedro Zenteno Santaella, Director General of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (Issste), stated that this pathology is one hundred percent preventable: it is enough to undergo screening tests from the age of 25. With this, it can be detected and timely treatments can be applied.

He pointed out that this disease is the fourth leading cause of cancer in general among beneficiaries, after breast, prostate and head cancer. In 2020, 98,42 thousand patients with some type of oncological disease were treated, of which 65.4 percent were women. Cervical cancer is equivalent to 5.9 percent of all types of cancer affecting people with the right to health insurance and the second most frequent type in women, as stated in Issste’s Financial and Actuarial Report 2022 bit.ly/3A7fcDW.

As part of the preventive health model, the head of the agency highlighted that Issste has reinforced preventive strategies for cervical cancer. Through the Regulatory Directorate of Health, the institute promotes permanent campaigns for the timely treatment of this disease in the Automated Detection and Diagnosis Clinic (Clidda), sexual and reproductive health services of first level medical units and hospitals.
