#Celaya, #Gto.- On Tuesday morning, September 20, authorities from DIF Celaya presented the progress of the permanent campaign ‘Celaya for a Happy Childhood’, which seeks to eradicate child labor and thus avoid situations that put the lives of children and adolescents at risk.

The General Director of DIF Celaya, María del Carmen Núñez Mares, the Assistant Attorney for Social Assistance, Yesenia Bojorjes Robles, the Coordinator of Actions in Favor of Children, Erika Velázquez Cortes, and Alfonso Arechiga Díaz, Executive Secretary of SIPINNA in the Municipality, spoke of the importance of this work in conjunction with the citizenry.

«We know that Celaya is a city of good people, of people who are moved by seeing children in street situations, but giving that currency does not contribute anything to the good development of their childhood and youth, on the contrary, it puts them at risk and can trigger situations of further abuse, even sexual exploitation and human trafficking,» said the Director, María del Carmen Núñez Mares.

She added that the presence of children from other states, and even from other Central and South American countries increases during the last four months of each year, as it is a time of greater economic mobility.

Currently and according to the Coordinator of Actions in Favor of Children, Erika Velázquez Cortes, between 50 and 60 children are targeted in the city’s avenues and monitoring and tours are constant, although they are invited to leave the streets, they cannot be forced to do so, but surveillance is permanent.
