#IMSS.- After 15 months of being diagnosed, five-year-old Beto rang «the bell of life,» a symbol that represents victory over the disease.

Dr. Mariana Ortiz Azpilcueta, in charge of the Brain and Bone Tumor Clinic at the Pediatric Hospital, said that the multidisciplinary work of IMSS specialists and the treatment made it possible to increase the child’s chances of staying alive.

The treatment consists of extracting stem cells from the bone marrow, to store them and transplant them after the oncological treatment.

Specialists from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) at the Pediatric Hospital of the Siglo XXI National Medical Center (CMN) performed their first stem cell transplant on a pediatric patient diagnosed with a primary tumor of the central nervous system of the brain, which allowed him to overcome his condition and be free of cancer.

After 15 months of being diagnosed, five year old Beto, on his last day of consultation, rang «the bell of life» located in the outpatient area of the High Specialty Medical Unit (UMAE) «Dr. Silvestre Frenk Freund», a symbol that represents the victory over the disease.
