#BenitoJuárez, #CDMX.- In the framework of the Seminar «Citizen Security: Blue or Green: a reflection for Mexico City», the Mayor of Benito Juarez, Santiago Taboada, pointed out that giving greater powers to the districts in security matters allowed him to implement, since his first administration, an effective civilian security strategy such as Blindar BJ, which has increased the positive perception of security among its inhabitants and passers-by, as well as the quality of life.

«Mexico City has always had a single command in public security. The experience I had as a constituent deputy was to give the mayor’s offices the possibility of participating in the chain of command and this becomes relevant with the proposal we made when we became mayor… Effectiveness can be measured or not in the level of quality of life and this depends on public safety and of course it depends on having very clear lines of responsibility», said the mayor.

During his presentation, Santiago Taboada indicated that since 2018 he bet on a proximity model, since, due to the level of life in Benito Juárez, most crimes are of the patrimonial order.

«We started the Blindar BJ strategy believing in a civilian model and I want to be very and respectful, it seems to me that the armed forces have an important role in this matter, but they have to be the last resort, not the only one. I believe that the Mexico City police force has the numbers, the experience and the capacity to deal with, understand and combat criminal phenomena,» he stressed.
