#GobiernoDeMéxico.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced the creation of a council for the protection of the human rights of migrants in which Father Alejandro Solalinde will have an honorary collaboration.

«If there is someone here, among others, who has defended migrants in a sincere way, with his shelters and everything, it is Father Solalinde (…) We are looking for people who really care and truly want to help,» he stressed.

In addition to this measure, he said, he will promote a reform within the National Migration Institute (INM).

The President recalled that the Government of the Fourth Transformation has promoted since its inception the implementation of Welfare Programs in Central American countries, such as Sembrando Vida and Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro with the purpose of addressing the causes of migration.

«We have invested more than 100 million dollars in communities in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. We have been in Central America (…) and we know it works,» he said.

The Chief Executive reiterated that the United States could provide greater financing with the objective of creating better living conditions for people so that they are not forced by poverty or insecurity to leave their countries of origin and families.
