#IMSS.- In Mexico, 5,547 people have been registered with a diagnosis of hemophilia, half of whom receive medical care at the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) through 90 second and third level medical units, with the aim of providing them with access to safe, high quality clotting factor replacement therapy, said Dr. Célida Duque Molina, Director of Medical Benefits.

During the inauguration of the First International Hemophilia Congress «Living in the Future of Care», at the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS), Duque Molina pointed out that Social Security seeks to reduce mortality from hemorrhages and increase prophylaxis, which is an ideal treatment for prevention and joint damage.

«The objective we seek with this congress is that with the invaluable contribution of all of you we strengthen the scientific knowledge of health professionals so that we reinforce the necessary tools to contribute to the best care of our beneficiaries,» he said.

He pointed out that during the sessions, the Hemophilia Code, the Comprehensive Care Protocol for Hereditary Hemophilia, Brain Code, as well as elective orthopedic treatments and innovative therapies of the Social Security will be presented, with the perspective that these patients should have better access to health care.
