Minister Ebrard announces changes in consular services to expand protection for Mexicans abroad / @SRE_mx @m_ebrard >>>
#SRE.- Secretary Marcelo Ebrard announced at the Foreign Ministry headquarters a series of actions that will be implemented in the consular network to continue improving the quality and availability of consular services and protection for Mexicans abroad. These actions will be aimed at providing increasingly complete, modern, efficient and inclusive services, under the instruction of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to provide consular protection to Mexicans abroad, a priority in foreign policy.
During his speech, Foreign Minister Ebrard commented that «in the United States, each of these measures has an enormous impact». He added that all of the above «has to do, not only with the daily life of our nationals, but also with the fact that they are part of the Mexican nation and we have to defend them and give them that support. They are part of the nation and that is why we are very pleased to announce these measures».
The Secretary of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed President López Obrador’s commitment under the motto «compliance is the strength of Mexico and of our government». For his part, the head of the North American Unit, Roberto Velasco Álvarez, emphasized during his participation that «there is no other country in the world that provides such a large number of consular services outside its territory» and that «we will continue to be a world reference for action and protection in consular matters».
The launching event was also attended by representatives of civil society organizations, as well as migrant deputies and legislators belonging to the North American and Migration and Border Affairs Commissions.
In August 2022, on instructions from President López Obrador, different areas of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held meetings with members of the Mexican communities residing in the U.S. to work on a joint plan. Listening to their needs, requests and proposals, we were able to identify alternatives to address the issues raised.
